Brookfields Park update from UU

by Lib Dem team on 13 April, 2024

We have received the update below from United Utilities

We want to make you aware of a project that we are planning to start within your constituency later this spring at Brookfields Park.

The work is part of our Better Rivers: Better North West programme to improve the health of rivers and waterbodies across the region. Our commitment includes major investment in our wastewater network and wastewater treatment infrastructure – so we can continue to reduce the frequency of storm overflow operations.

In Brookfields Park we plan to construct a new underground storage tank to provide more capacity in our wastewater network. This additional storage would be connected to our existing Combined Sewer Overflow (which we refer to as Cheadle Golf Course CSO) reducing the number of operations into, and improving water quality in, Micker Brook and the River Mersey.

As a project team over recent months, we have been working with Stockport Council as the landowner to agree this work and undertake surveys to help inform our design. We have also been speaking to and working with the authority tree officer as part of early works to remove some trees and vegetation and avoid the bird nesting season.

We have also recently met with the Friends of Carr Brook to discuss our wider plans for the Micker Brook catchment. We have also been engaging with the Werneth Area Committee about opportunities in the Romiley/Bredbury area to improve the health of the River Goyt.

We are planning to hold a community drop-in session at the Golf Club to share information with local residents and visitors to the park where they will have chance to provide feedback on our plans.

Please could advise when the drop in session will take place, and at which golf club?
