Plans to develop Gatley golf course

by Lib Dem team on 20 August, 2022

Cllr Tom Morrison writes:

Some of you will know that the developers behind the plans to build 278 homes on Gatley Golf Course have reviewed their application with some amendments.

Because of this, residents and interested parties are being asked to submit further comments to the Council’s consultation on the proposals. It is therefore advisable to comment again, even if you have done this already.

Councillors who sit on the Area Committee have been advised by the Planning Department that by making their feelings clear now will mean they may be stopped from voting when the application is determined. However, I and Cllr Ian Hunter have already made our feelings clear on the proposals, and the amended plans have not changed our mind.

There has clearly been no attempt made by the developer to reduce the impact the plans will have on the ecology of the site, nor reduce the impact on local roads. We are therefore continuing to object to the plans.

Because these are amendments to the original application, the consultation has been reopened for local people to have their say.

It is vital that as many people as possible provide comments and feedback on the plans.

If you would like to review the proposals and submit comments please go to https://planning.Stockport.gov.uk/PlanningData-live/ and use the reference number DC/081468 (dated 7th June 2021) NB This is the second of the two applications listed.  Or write to the planning department at: Planning Directorate, Stopford House, Stockport, SK1 3XE. Comments must be in by 30th August.
To assist on what a “valid comment” may be, we have helpfully prepared a briefing sheet on this webpage which you can access at:

I and my colleagues will keep residents updated on the plans as more information comes forward. However, if you have any further questions or want more information please contact me on the details below.

Some of the plans include dimensions and locations of items which are incorrect. Despite noting such issues in previous comments to the Council, they have not been corrected on the latest drawings.
This may suggest that the errors are deliberately not being corrected by the Developer in order to “hoodwink” the public and decision makers.
If everyone who can, checks the details around their own properties and street.
If anyone has the original deeds, they may be able to show where maps and plans (eg Land Registry) are in error and/or inconsistent.

Have any objections been raised on ecological grounds? I know from evening walks on that land that there are a lot of bats around..

    • J says:

Chris – i hope the ecological aspects will be taken into account too. I live nearby on Troutbeck Rd and see bats over my garden most nights. This proposed development will surely adversely affect them.
I have records of every bird, bat, hedgehog and fox that i’ve seen from my garden since 1995 if that’s a help to stopping this development.

  3. John Hartley says:

It’ll be a shame, if this plan goes ahead, that it will not be for housing for affordable social rent.
