We are excited to announce that the Parklet, currently located on the High Street, will soon be relocating to a local school. This move, supported by residents, the Cheadle Civic Society, and local councillors, will improve both the High Street atmosphere and will be used by local students.
Councillor Ian Hunter shared his enthusiasm, stating, “I’m delighted the Parklet is moving. It is unpopular with shoppers, and its move will enhance the High Street.” The new location at the school promises to give the Parklet a renewed purpose, offering students a unique, green space for learning and recreation.

Good idea – at the same time can the traffic wardens be given authority to immediately book all cars PARKED in adjoining LOADING AREA — too many motorists park under the guise of “loading” !
Well at last someone listened! No doubt the other parties will claim to have sorted this carbuncle out .
It was a waste of money in the first place
At last it’s being removed but I hope the free space will not be used by vehicles parking. That area is abused as is Massie street by vehicles parked up mainly for Greggs!!!!!! It needs to be monitored until it is, nothing will enhance the High Street whilst cars are mounting pavements and parking up. All the “A” boards that previously we were told were illegal also need to be addressed, its like an obstacle course at times trying to manoeuvre round cafe furniture and advertising boards. But this is a good start.
The parklet was a waste of money, and I distinctly remember responses on here making that point even before it was installed. But no. It went ahead anyway.
As for Massie St, yes, idiots park just inside the turn to go to Greggs – no comeback I’ve ever seen. And what happened to the no-right-turn camera we were promised?
About time too! Why do simple things take so much time?
I understand a review of “improving the village” is ongoing….
Subscribers to this column have made their views very clear over recent times….have any suggestions been adopted?
The situation at Massie St./Greggs is in need of rapid intervention…I think at one time we were all taught accident prevention and defensive driving…..ah well, we’ll just have to wait and see….
I feel it only fair that I should respond to your message relating to the Carbuncle, otherwise referred to as a ‘Parklet’ on Cheadle High Street, as I was very vocal in my response when you first announced the proposals for it. I will be glad to see this ugly box removed. I remember your replies to previous comments regarding the funding for this project, “The money is from the government and has to be spent on one-off projects that can be completed before the end of March”. This was your standard reply to almost everyone who commented on the waste of money. At the time you mentioned that the money could only be spent for certain purposes and I don’t recall seating areas in schools being one of those purposes. Does that mean that the cost of the Parklet will be returned to the original fund and made available for something more appropriate within the village?
Whilst talking about White Elephants and wasted money, what about the Wasted money being spent on Milton Road, altering perfectly good pavement corners , using 3 way traffic lights (😂) 24 hours a day it’s a joke, if you have the council do a drop kerb for a driveway once approved its done in a morning and without traffic light controls. Milton’s work has been going on for over a week with no sign of finishing. Who’s Paying
As a resident of Milton Crescent I’d like to say how calm it has been down here with the traffic lights.
Can’t say I fully agree with the current works programme however anything which goes towards slowing down the traffic gets the thumbs up from me.
Anyway we have crept away from the Parklet theme. Suffice to say the sooner it’s gone the better.
MILTON CRESCENT needs all day Residents Parking only —-that might stop Cheadle Shoppers etc. causing traffic hazards.
What a complete waste of time and money as per usual when mps or council involved. A couple of new benches around Cheadle Village would have been a far better use of the funds. All that jargon talk of enhancing the hight Street haha never heard such nonsense in my life.
