Platform Extension Work – East Didsbury and Gatley Stations
Dear Neighbour,
Network Rail is due to complete work near your property and I wanted to give you some more information about the times we will be working and what the project will involve.
As you may be aware, Network Rail is working with Northern Rail and Trans-Pennine Express to extend platforms at stations across the North of England. This will increase capacity across the network by enabling us to accommodate newer, longer trains with more seats.
During recent work to extend platforms at Gatley and East Didsbury stations, we ran into unforeseen issues on site. Since then, our engineering team has been working hard to find solutions to these issues so we can return to complete the work. We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused and we thank you for your patience whilst we carry out these upgrades.
In order to complete the platform extensions, we will need to carry out work between 13 July and 02 October.
The main work will be carried out during the dates and times listed below:
In order for us to carry out this work safely, we will be using a tamper which lifts and moves the track. Because of the machinery we use, some noise is to be expected however, I can assure you that our teams will do all they can to keep this to a minimum where possible e.g. all plant machinery will be switched off when not in use.
We will be installing copers and tarmac to the platform extension between 02 September and 02 October. To allow us to carry out this work safely, there will be no train services during the following dates and a rail replacement bus will be in operation:
A temporary compound will be located on the station car park.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience and understanding while this work takes place and please feel free to call our 24-hour helpline on 03457 11 41 41 if you have any further queries.
Kind Regards,
Hayley Millington, Community Relations Executive
