Wow…..along with others I have raised this for years….and I mean years….more than TEN….going back to when the official answer was that there were only a couple of mobile cameras across Stockport. Your records will verify…..
    When can we expect action?
    Janet.

  2. John Hartley says:

As someone living in Gatley, I would never need to turn right out of Massie Street. But, purely out of interest, can anyone tell me why it’s illegal to turn right there?

I’m sure there must be a good reason but I struggle to think what it might be, when right turns are permitted from the other four roads which are off High Street (Church St, Mary St, Eden Place and Ashfield Rd).

    TIA.

  3. John H says:

The right turn from Massey Street into the High Street was introduced prior to the M60 being constructed when there was the notorious “Cheadle Crawl” the no right turn prevented cars blocking the Altrincham bound lane.

    Hi Janet
The council is currently undertaking a consultation and traffic count, ones these are done a court order will be applied for – so no dates yet but watch this space.

  5. John Hartley says:

    Thanks John

So, it’s trying to solve an obsolete problem that disappeared over two decades ago.

  6. Roberts, Iain says:

I don’t think the problem is obsolete, John. Apart from anything else, the “no right turn” discourages drivers from rat-running along Charlotte Road and Massie Street rather than turning right at the lights.

  7. Janet Holmes says:

Thank you for your reply, I must say that this is probably one of very few replies to my questions/comments, over several years.
Will the staff conducting the count at Massie Street remember to be not so obvious as the last, complete with uniforms and
    police vehicle.
By the way, I never did have an answer to my invitation to walk with me locally and discuss situations which affect visitors to the shopping area. The offer still stands!
    Thank you
